SEATTLE — Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson defended Washington law protecting immigrants after U.S. Attorney Pamela Bondi threatened legal action against sanctuary jurisdictions.

In a social media post Saturday, Ferguson shared a letter Bondi sent to Ferguson on Aug. 13, saying Washington was identified as engaging in “sanctuary policies” and asked Ferguson to eliminate laws that “impede” federal immigration enforcement.

Ferguson said the state doesn’t intend to change its approach, citing the Keep Washington Working Act , which the state Legislature passed in 2019 to protect immigrants.

“Protecting hardworking Washingtonians who are abiding by our state laws and keeping families together reflect our values as a state,” Ferguson said in a tweet.
