NEWARK, NJ – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers arrested Wilmer Chileno, an Ecuadorian national, on Aug. 11 in New Jersey, citing a criminal history that includes aggravated assault and multiple weapons-related charges.

According to Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Newark, Chileno was previously arrested for attempting to cause bodily injury, as well as for possession and unlawful possession of a weapon. Officials said he is currently being held in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.

ICE did not specify when or where the prior offenses occurred, but noted that Chileno is considered a threat to public safety due to the nature of the charges. No additional details were released about the circumstances surrounding his arrest last week.
