AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety unveiled redesigned driver license and identification cards Monday, featuring updated security enhancements and a new appearance.
Beginning Aug. 18, all new Texas DLs and IDs will include tamper-resistant polycarbonate material and an updated layout designed to improve clarity and verification, according to DPS. Previously issued cards will remain valid until their printed expiration date.
“The way driver licenses are made can make a big difference in terms of public safety,” DPS Driver License Division Chief Sheri Gipson said. “This new card design will make it even more difficult for criminals to produce counterfeit cards, and it enhances ways we can protect Texans’ identities from being stolen.”
