NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Monday, Attorney General Raúl Torrez filed a petition with the New Mexico Supreme Court to consider removal of Eleventh Judicial District Attorney Bernadine Martin.
The filing of the petition comes after a request from Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham earlier in the summer and is based on the results of an investigation conducted by the New Mexico Department of Justice. According to a press release, the petition outlines evidence of a hostile work environment, violations of procurement law, improper reliance on contract attorneys and failure to prepare or subpoena witnesses.
"This is an extraordinary step, but it is necessary to protect the integrity of the justice system," Attorney General Torrez said in a release. The New Mexico Supreme Court will review the petition
