Malique Javon Fails

Malique Javon Fails, 18, of Highland Park, faces charges in the June 21 murder of a transgender woman from Taylor, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office announced Monday.

At around 3 p.m., Detroit police were sent to a laundromat in the 17600 block of Woodward Ave. and found the body of Christina Hayes, 28, of Taylor, in the alley behind the building. She had suffered injuries to her face and neck.

Authorities allege that around 4:30 a.m., Fails fatally assaulted Hayes and robbed her of her money and cellphone before fleeing. He was arrested last Friday.
