Auburn is retiring the No. 2 jersey of Heisman Trophy winner and national champion quarterback Cam Newton.

The ceremony will take place on Oct. 11 during the Tigers’ game against rival Georgia at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Newton, 36, will be just the fourth player so honored at Auburn, joining fellow Heisman winners Bo Jackson (No. 34) and Pat Sullivan (No. 7) along with record-setting receiver Terry Beasley (No. 88).

No Auburn player has worn the No. 2 since Newton led the unbeaten Tigers (14-0) to a BCS national championship and won the Heisman in 2010.
