WASHINGTON — A hiker at a Tennessee state park has died after he was bitten by a venomous snake, according to park officials.
The man, who was not identified publicly, was hiking at the Savage Gulf State Park on Aug. 8 when the snake bit him, Grundy County Emergency Management Agency Director Matthew Griffith said in an emailed statement.
According to officials, the hiker was approximately half a mile down the trail at 55th Avenue in Gruetli-Laager when he was bit. First responders arrived at the scene shortly after being dispatched, around 12:30 p.m. local time.
Paramedics administered life-saving efforts before the man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries. Griffith said the hiker possibly died of an allergic reaction, but details of the actual cause of death
