MARYVILLE, Tenn. — A Blount County judge has ordered a double murder indictment to be dismissed against an elderly man accused of killing his parents in Maryville in 1977.

Judge Tammy Harrington filed an order granting the motion to dismiss filed by suspect Michael Keith Fine's defense attorneys on Friday. Fine has since been released from the Blount County Jail.

Fine, who is in his 80s, was arrested in Alabama in 2023 and charged in the shooting deaths of his parents, Helen and Maynard Fine. The couple was found slain on May 20, 1977, at their Everett Avenue home in Maryville. Autopsy results from that time showed they'd died from multiple gunshot wounds, and had been killed about a week before being found.
