During a White House presser held Monday in the Oval Office with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, President Donald Trump was questioned about First Lady Melania Trump’s letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Asked by a reporter to comment on his wife's letter, Trump responded: “She has a wonderful son that she loves probably more than anybody including me. But she loves her son ... it was a beautiful letter. It was very well received by [Putin].”
Trump is hosting Zelensky, along with several European leaders, following an earlier summit in Alaska with Putin on Friday.

The First Lady’s letter, hand-delivered by Trump at that summit, appealed to Putin’s sense of humanity, urging him to protect children amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The letter, while not explicitly naming Ukraine, appealed to universal values ("an innocence which stands above geography, government, and ideology"), and implored Putin to “singlehandedly restore their melodic laughter.”
The First Lady concluded: “In protecting the innocence of these children, you will do more than serve Russia alone — you serve humanity itself.”
Meanwhile, Trump's response to the question about Melania's letter was mocked on social media.

Writer Sarah Burris said: "Trump says of his wife, Melania: 'She has a wonderful son that she loves -- she loves HER son.' Isn't he their son?"
Democratic influencer Joanne Carducci wrote: "Does he know her son is also his son?"
An X user wrote: "Why does he always talk about Barron as if he only belongs to Melania. So weird….."
"Creepy. Trump talks about Melania’s 'wonderful son' like he isn’t also his own kid. Even in praise, he makes it sound weird and off," wrote another user.
