"Drivers across Michigan are paying less at the pump this week," AAA said.

Low oil prices, analysts said, are helping to keep gas prices down.

Michigan’s gas prices were down as of Aug. 17, 11 cents from a week ago, while the national average was largely unchanged.

The average price a gallon for regular unleaded was $3.12, with some analysts forecasting that they could go even lower, mostly depending on oil prices, and how much demand there is for fuel.

"Drivers across Michigan are paying less at the pump this week," Adrienne Woodland, a spokeswoman for AAA, which tracks prices, said. "If demand continues to drop, gas prices may follow suit."

That's good news for folks planning to hit the road for the Labor Day holiday.
