A jail inmate in Multnomah County died Saturday evening, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies found the person unresponsive around 5:30 p.m. at Inverness Jail in Northeast Portland and, along with corrections health staff, tried to revive the inmate. Paramedics pronounced the person dead.

The sheriff’s office did not release the age or name of the inmate, pending notification of relatives. The medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

It’s the third reported death in Multnomah County custody this year. In May, Sharon Lee Watkins, 39, died after being found unresponsive in her cell. Carlos Robert Morris, 46, died in custody in January.

The deaths so far this year are an increase from the one death in 2024 , which was a steep drop from the seven in-custody death
