MARION, Ill. (KFVS) - Some southern Illinois veterans will share their stories through song during the Freedom Sings USA event in September.

The city of Marion is partnering with Freedom Sings USA, Heroes United, Banterra Bank, Artspace 304 and other donors for the event in Marion.

It’s set for Saturday, September 6 at Tower Square Plaza.

Organizers say over the course of three days, the veterans will work side-by-side with award-winning songwriters whose works have been recorded and performed by Willie Nelson, Trisha Yearwood, George Strait, Alabama and more.

The songs will be performed starting at 6 p.m.

They say bring your lawn chair and gather with friends and family to honor veterans.

It’s free and open to the public. Guests are asked to bring non-perishable food items to donate
