A season after reaching the College Football Playoff final, Notre Dame is turning to a Northwest Indiana native to help lead its program.
The Fighting Irish announced Andrean graduate and St. John native Drayk Bowen as one of the team's six captains Monday, as voted on by members of the team.
Bowen, a junior linebacker, is joined as captain by defensive tackle Donovan Hinish, wideout Will Pauling, offensive guard Billy Schrauth, safety Adon Shuler and offensive tackle Aamil Wagner.
The former Indiana Mr. Football winner was a key part of the Notre Dame defense last season, finishing third on the team in tackles. In his two years with the Irish, Bowen has tallied 92 total tackles, five tackles for loss, four forced fumbles and a sack.
