POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office (DCDA) announced on Monday that 39-year-old Jan Deere was sentenced to a total of 30 years in state prison for causing the death of Jaquan Fryar. The Gloversville man was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter and two counts second-degree criminal possession of a weapon back in June.

Deere was convicted of aiming and firing a handgun at Fryar during a dispute on Main Street in Poughkeepsie around 4:20 a.m. on March 30, 2024. Investigators determined that a bullet struck Fryar in the head and he later died at a local hospital.
