EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — A Somers Point man was arrested Friday night for allegedly driving while intoxicated and crashing into a pickup truck at Zion and Robert Best roads, police said.

Hector Merino-Garcia, 36, was charged with assault by auto and issued multiple traffic summonses.

Merino-Garcia was driving a 2002 Buick LeSabre on Robert Best at 8:06 p.m. when the vehicle veered off the road on a curve and swerved back into the intersection, colliding with a 2008 Toyota Tundra that was turning left from Zion onto Robert Best, police said Monday in a news release.

The Tundra driver, a 60-year-old township man, was treated at the scene for a head injury, police said. Two adult passengers in Merino-Garcia's car were uninjured.
