DUBLIN, Ga. — A former Mercer University School of Law graduate was sworn in Monday as the next U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia, which is the chief federal law enforcement officer for the southern part of the state.

Meg Heap — who graduated Mercer School of Law in 1992 — was named U.S. Attorney for Georgia's southern district, which prosecutes federal crimes and defends the United States in lawsuits.

The Southern District of Georgia, which is headquartered in Savannah, includes seven Central Georgia counties. That includes Dodge, Laurens, Johnson, Montgomery, Telfair, Treutlen and Wheeler Counties.
