CHAMBLEE, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A man is behind bars after he allegedly hit and killed a pedestrian, which shut down a busy metro Atlanta roadway for hours overnight, according to the Chamblee Police Department.

It happened on Chamblee Tucker Road between Buford Highway and Shallowford Road in Chamblee just before 9:30 p.m. Sunday. When officers arrived, they learned that the victim was seriously injured and the driver was no longer there.

Police said because of how serious the injuries were, all life-saving measures were stopped.

Witnesses told police the pedestrian was trying to cross southbound from the driveway of 2498 Chamblee Tucker Road. When he got onto the road, he was hit by a white van going west in the right most lane. The van kept going west on the road, failing to sto
