EFFINGHAM, Ill. (WAND) - An Effingham man was arrested Friday after stealing a motor vehicle.

The Effingham Police Department stated that officers were alerted about a stolen vehicle shortly after 10:30 p.m. Friday, while parked in the 100 block of S. Banker downtown.

Officers responded immediately to the area where the vehicle was last spotted. It and the suspect were found moments later in the area of S. Banker and Kagay Avenue.

The vehicle was seen driving at a low speed without lights, hitting multiple unattended vehicles and a mailbox in the process.

Effingham PD identified Draven Shelton, 21, of Effingham, as the driver, and he was taken into custody after the vehicle stopped at the intersection of 4th Street and Clark Avenue.

Shelton was booked on a Class 2 Felony and citations
