BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- In this week’s edition of “All About Alabama,” we are exploring the most historic schoolhouses across central Alabama.

Old Rock School

Built in 1921 out of chert rocks by local farmers, Old Rock School served as Springville's high school through 1933 and as its elementary school until 1972. The final teachers' names are still hanging on wooden plaques above the classroom doorways.

Little School House

Earning a place in the Alabama Register of Historical Buildings, Little School House was constructed in 1898 and established by German immigrants in Garden City. That's where children built their education until it closed in 1932 when Garden City Elementary School opened nearby.
