Horror movies have been around for much longer than just the dawn of the 21st century, is a hopefully agreeable thing to say. Some of the earliest silent movie classics were horror movies (see Nosferatu , which is still pretty creepy and 100+ years old), and then later decades saw undeniable masterpieces like Psycho , The Exorcist , Jaws , and The Thing all get released.

It’s an interesting genre to track in the present, though, because while the classics are great, what is or isn't scary can change over the course of many years, and differing generations.
