HARLEM, Manhattan (PIX11) — A fifth person has died from Legionnaires' disease in Central Harlem, according to health officials.

The New York City Health Department announced updated numbers on Monday. This comes days after a fourth person died as a result of the disease.

On Thursday, NYC officials announced that 12 cooling towers were decontaminated of the Legionella bacteria, which is what Legionnaires' disease derives from.

As of Monday, the number of confirmed cases rose to 108 from the previously reported 99, and 14 people are currently hospitalized with the disease.
