JONES BEACH, Long Island (PIX11) -- Erin remains hundreds of miles out at sea, but the storm has managed to leave plenty of damage in its wake that people still had to deal with all day on Friday, even as they tried to enjoy an otherwise beautiful day at the beach.
Despite significant preparations for the storm's damage, Erin breached a sand berm that had been constructed to prevent storm surge at Jones Beach State Park.
The storm's intense waves came ashore, flooding a lifeguard facility, pickleball courts, the mini golf course, the bandshell, and some parking lots during the high tides on Thursday evening and Friday morning.
The waves were intense, tall, and wide, according to lifeguards who watched the worst of it come in on Thursday night.
