The California legislature will vote this week to schedule a November special election to allow voters to decide whether the state should throw out its independently drawn congressional maps and draw new ones in order to provide more favorable conditions for Democratic candidates in the state, counter Republicans' efforts in other states and flip the House next year to provide a check on President Donald Trump’s power.
The maps , released late Friday, would likely send five more California Democrats to Congress in 2026, though some of the districts remain competitive.
