WASHINGTON — Over the past week, commuters coming in and out of Union Station have had to get used to this scene: soldiers and military Humvees, standing guard.

“The last time I saw the National Guard in D.C. was Sept. 11, so it was surprising,” said one visitor.

President Donald Trump says the soldiers are here to help bring down crime in the district, despite official data from the FBI and D.C. that says violent crime is down from last year.

Since last Monday’s announcement, National Guard soldiers have been spotted walking the streets, and patrolling the Metro.

While some like Aeshia Allen, who lives in DC, are apprehensive about the soldiers, they’re hoping that some good can come out of it.
