The California Coastal Commission has unanimously rejected an Air Force proposal to double the number of SpaceX launches each year at Vandenberg Space Force Base, citing the lack of environmental impact data, even though the vote doesn’t have the ability to halt the launches.
Following a roughly 90-minute public discussion in Calabasas Thursday, the commission voted to not concur that the Air Force project is consistent with California law, saying there wasn’t enough information provided on whether the increased SpaceX launches are considered a “federal agency activity” and how the increased launches would affect sensitive habitats.
