DERIDDER, La. (KPLC) - A Louisiana man is facing several charges, including attempted murder, after reportedly trying to choke a police officer and grab his taser.

Around 1:25 this afternoon, the DeRidder Police Department responded to a call about an unwanted person at a local business.

Officers said the person, later identified as 42-year-old Michael Darron Smith of Baker, was intoxicated and uncooperative.

According to police, Smith then became aggressive, attempted to choke an officer, and grab the officer’s taser.

Employees of the business quickly intervened, and Smith was subdued and taken into custody, police said.

Smith was booked on the following charges:

Attempted first-degree murder of a police officer

Attempted disarming of an officer

Resisting an officer with force or
