PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Rebekah Baptiste, 10, was laid to rest Monday as the Department of Child Safety faces scrutiny over its response to numerous reports of abuse and neglect involving the family. Rebekah’s father, Richard Baptiste, and his girlfriend, Anicia Woods, have been charged with her murder, as well as with abuse of her two younger brothers.

Rebekah, described by teachers as bright , kind, and an “amazing big sister,” died three days after being found unconscious in the Holbrook area on July 27.

According to newly released police body camera footage, the couple called 911 after claiming a neighbor found Rebekah unconscious in a wash. When asked by officers for the neighbor’s name, they said they didn’t know, explaining they had just moved to the area.
