TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Tucson is celebrating a big birthday this week! The city is honoring its 250th anniversary.

The official date is Aug. 20, which marks the founding of the Presidio San Agustín del Tucsón in 1775.

The celebration, called “Tucson 250+”, is a year-long event, but this week features several key activities.

Events include:

Special proclamation and plaque unveiling: Mayor Regina Romero will present a special proclamation at the City Council Meeting Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 5:30 p.m. A plaque unveiling ceremony will be held at City Hall Wednesday, Aug. 20, at noon.
