A DUI checkpoint led to the arrest of seven drivers of the 537 people who were contacted at the stop, which was enforced by Colorado State Patrol and the Fountain Police Department on Friday.
The stop in El Paso County was located along Highway 16 in Fountain, according to a Colorado State Patrol news release. Another stop in Gilpin County on the same night resulted in six DUI arrests out of 760 contacts.
During the checkpoint, 20 people in El Paso County and 28 in Gilpin County were subjected to a horizontal gaze nystagmus, the walk-and-turn and one leg stand tests, which are the three standardized tests, according to Trooper Gabriel Moltrer.
Friday's checkpoint in Fountain was the first in El Paso County conducted by Colorado State Patrol in about 10 years, Moltrer told The Gazette.
