A few Jersey Shore communities have banned swimming at their beaches on Monday due to dangerous surf conditions caused by Hurricane Erin and strong winds blowing in off the ocean, authorities said.

The ban comes after the National Weather Service issued a high rip current risk Monday and Tuesday as the Category 4 hurricane continues to spin hundreds of miles off the coast of Florida. High surf, beach erosion and coastal flooding may also occur along the Jersey Shore, according to the weather service.
