WASHINGTON — The State Department has revoked the visas of more than 6,000 students so far this year. A State Department official told Spectrum News that most of the student visas were revoked for overstays and law violations.

The department said 4,000 of the revocations were for assault, driving under the influence, burglary and support for terrorism. It did not clarify how many of those were convicted of crimes and has not responded to a follow-up question from Specdtrum News.

Between 200 and 300 student visas were revoked for terrorism under the Immigration and Nationality Act Section 3B, also known as Terrorism-Related Inadmissibility Grounds , according to the State Department.
