CHEROKEE, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Cherokee Indian Police Department reports it is searching for a man dealing with mental health challenges.

Elijah Maney, 25, was last seen walking in the woods near Lambert Branch Road after midnight, police said.

Officials report first responders from across western North Carolina helped in a large-scale search effort, but it has been scaled back as of Sunday after their leads were exhausted.

Maney is five foot six inches with long brown hair and black eyes and was last seen wearing all black. He has mental health issues that may cause him to anxious, fearful and confused, according to police.

Officers said he may be near the Blue Ridge Parkway or the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
