BROOKINGS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The best athletes to do anything had to start somewhere. Whether they started when they were kids or picked it up later in life, there’s always the base of the mountain.

Born with a rare genetic disorder called arthrogryposis, it affects Alex’s joints and muscles. 12 years ago, he elected to have his legs removed. After moving to South Dakota, he started his own business and became a motivational speaker.
