SALEM, Ore. (KPTV) - Marion County leaders have filed a lawsuit to clarify whether or not providing documents requested in subpoenas from Immigration and Customs Enforcement would violate Oregon’s sanctuary law.
The lawsuit stems from subpoenas issued by ICE asking for records of four alleged undocumented immigrants who are on parole for crimes including rape, sexual abuse and kidnapping/robbery.
County officials say they reached out to both the state and federal government to clarify legal requirements prior to filing the lawsuit on Monday, but “ambiguity remains.”
“Marion County has to follow both federal and state laws, and there’s a serious lack of clarity that the courts need to figure out,” said Commissioner Bethell. “Marion County is committed to prosecuting and holding accountab
