Florence will open its 8-player varsity football season Thursday, hosting Wausau Newman Catholic at 7 p.m.
Newman Catholic finished 8-2 last season, bowing in the opening round of the state playoffs. The Bobcats, coached by Kent Walstrom, went 7-3, one season removed from an undefeated state championship campaign.
Niagara, coached by Ben Laarman, opens its season at 7 p.m. Friday, traveling to Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy. The game will be played at Lena High School.
The host Titans reached the WIAA 8-player state championship game in 2024, falling to Owen-Withee 50-36. Lena/St. Thomas finished 10-2 on the season, while the Badgers were 3-7 overall.
