The Senior Resident Magistrate Court in Blantyre has convicted six people on charges related to the illegal possession of rhino horns and ivory, as well as dealing in government trophies.

Those found guilty are Steven Kandoje (37), Chrissy Dailesi (46), Hellen Maunjiri (57), Elizabeth Mpira (55), Ronnex Lopanda (37), and Omar Nadeem (57).

South West Region Police deputy spokesperson, Beatrice Mikuwa, said the arrests followed a tip-off.

“A well-wisher saw the horns and reported the matter to police in Blantyre, leading to the arrest of two suspects. The pair later led investigators to others, including the sixth accused, Nadeem Omar,” she explained.
