TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA)— Dangerous rip currents are expected along the U.S. East Coast as Hurricane Erin grows in size while moving over the western Atlantic this week, the National Hurricane Center said.
Located about 675 miles southwest of Bermuda, Erin is moving toward the northwest at about 7 mph.
Erin is expected to move toward the north-northwest with an increase in forward speed today, before a northward motion on Wednesday and a northeastward motion on Thursday.
According to the NHC, the center of Erin will pass to the east of the Bahamas today and tonight before moving over the western Atlantic between the U.S. East Coast and Bermuda on Wednesday and Thursday.
Maximum sustained winds are at about 115 mph.
Erin is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.
