LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The new school year has officially kicked off across Mid-Michigan.

But just because kids are clocking out in the early afternoon, that doesn’t mean parents can.

That’s where after-school programs come in to help working parents.

“School gets out kind of early, and if it wasn’t for this, it would definitely affect my job,” said Ashley Hohenbrink, a mom of two from Jackson.

Hohenbrink takes advantage of after-school programs like the one the Jackson YMCA offers.

“My youngest, he’s learned how to swim here, so even though it’s just for them to watch the kids for after school, they are learning how to swim and swim safety and all that,” said Hohenbrink.
