Team B.C., with Vernon's Michelle Webster as an assistant coach, was the class of the field in women's softball at the Canada Summer Games in St. John's, NL.

The provincial squad capped an undefeated Games with their stiffest test of the tournament, a 9-6 win over Ontario, in the gold-medal match.

B.C. went 7-0 in St. John's, outscoring their opposition 61-7, and the pitching staff allowed just 25 hits in the seven games, eight of which came in the gold-medal contest.

After four straight shutouts in the preliminary round, New Brunswick became the first team to score a run on B.C. It came in an 11-1 defeat during playoff qualification.

B.C. advanced to the championship with a 7-0 blanking of Ontario. In the round-robin, the provincial squad blanked PEI 15-0, Saskatchewan 3-0,
