PHOENIX — A man is in the hospital after a shooting with police in Phoenix, the city's police department said.
Around 4 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a trespassing call at an IHOP restaurant near 19th and Northern avenues. As officers arrived on scene, a man wielding a knife exited the building, police said.
According to police, the man was charging towards officers when they deployed less-lethal rounds to subdue the suspect. The suspect kept did not comply and then an officer reportedly fired his service rifle, striking the man.
The man sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
