BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - A Jefferson County man is accused of making dozens of prank calls to 911, including false reports of a bomb thrown into a church, a child shot and a deputy run over.
Court records show 23-year-old Desean Brooks placed the calls to multiple agencies, including smaller departments such as Lipscomb Police.
One call claimed his 5-year-old child had been shot, but that turned out to be false.
“When you are calling into 911, you are tying up a call taker or dispatcher because someone else could be trying to get through as well that is legitimate,” said Henry Irby with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. “It really hinders our resources. The response we send to false calls could be utilized somewhere else.”
