Two area doctors believe that while currently there are no known cures for Alzheimer’s disease, there are treatments available to slow the progression, potentially improve quality of life and lower the risk of diagnosis.
Dr. Suhag Patel, PA-C, UPMC Neurological Institute in North Central PA, and Dr. Glen Finney, director of Geisinger’s Memory and Cognition Program, agree that Alzheimer’s is the most common cause of dementia and is responsible for 60% to 80% of cases, due to a specific pathology in the brain.
