STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.— The National Weather Service has issued a high rip current risk for parts of New York City and Long Island due to long-period swells generated by Hurricane Erin, according to a tweet from the City’s Emergency Management’s X page.

These powerful waves are expected to create hazardous surf conditions for beaches in Brooklyn, Queens, Suffolk, and Nassau counties this upcoming Tuesday and Wednesday.

According to NYC Emergency Management, the swells from Hurricane Erin are not only powerful but also far-reaching, making the surf especially dangerous.

These conditions are producing life-threatening rip currents that can sweep even the strongest of swimmers away from shore.
