Dr. Phillips coach Rodney Wells and Olympia coach Travis Gabriel are friends. During the football season they usually talk at least twice a week.

There is one week during the season, however, where phones don’t ring. They don’t talk. When Olympia takes on Dr. Phillips. It’s a rivalry.

“We’re brothers and we make sure once the game is over we’re back to being family,” Gabriel said. “Been doing that for eight years.

“At first, the principals were like, ‘We never thought this would happen with Olympia and Dr. Phillips.’ You know, once that whistle blows, we’re ready to get after it. But when it’s over, we’re their biggest fans.”
