INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Colts are going with Daniel Jones over Anthony Richardson as the team's starting quarterback.
After NFL Network and ESPN first reported the news around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, Colts head coach Shane Steichen confirmed Jones would start in the team's regular season opener against the Miami Dolphins Sept. 7, with Richardson serving as backup.
"The consistency...that's really what I was looking for," Steichen told reporters, adding that Richardson has made strides but "still needs to continue to develop."
Steichen said he had "great" conversations with both Jones and Richardson regarding his decision. Richardson "knows that he still needs to develop and learn... and he knows that he's one play away," Steichen said.
