Watson’s BBQ serving Tucumcari for over 4 decades

TUCUMCARI, N.M. (KFDA) - Ruben visits Watson’s BBQ in Tucumcari and learns how they have been serving the area for over four decades.

Co-owner Jimmy Watson says they bought the store and started running it in 1982. It was a hardware store, feed store, and hardware store.

They rented it until about 2010.

“It was doing pretty good and then the economy started doing a little turn around here. So we decided we’d better start looking at something else and we decided to make BBQ,” said Jimmy.

Jimmy says his dad barbecued back in the 80s. They decided they would try that.

“So we started barbecuing and it just snowballed, and pretty soon we start on weekends. Now we’re doing it, you know, five days a week and everything. So it turned out really good for us,” said Jimmy.
