KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Bill Williams, WBIR anchor emeritus and a pillar of journalism in East Tennessee, has died. He was 91.

Williams was born in Missouri in 1934 and attended college in Oklahoma before working in television news in Jefferson City, Missouri, and Columbia, Missouri.

He joined the team at WBIR in 1977, later hopping on the desk again in 2006.

He survived his wife of 36 years, Wanda, when she died in October of 2019.
