NATIONWIDE — The U.S. Food & Drug Administration’s warned consumers against frozen raw shrimp sold under Walmart’s Great Value brand on Tuesday, Aug. 19. The product was processed by PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati, a company located in Indonesia. The FDA states the product is in violation of the Federal Food, Drug & Cosmetic Act. The FDA is actively investigating reports of Cesium-137 (Cs-137) contamination in shipping containers and frozen shrimp products processed from this firm. Although testing to date has not confirmed the presence of contamination the product appears to have been prepared, packed, or held under insanitary conditions subjecting it to possible contamination with Cs-137.
