That’s how the late John Fancsy, who left $40 million for a new regional acute care hospital in Windsor, is remembered by loved ones.

Earlier this month, Fancsy’s siblings were among the roughly 150 people who gathered at the site of the new hospital on County Road 42 where news of the donation broke, and the hospital’s name was revealed: The Fancsy Family Hospital.

John Fancsy suffered a fatal heart attack at age 65 in 2024, two years after he quietly decided to give one of the most generous private donations ever made to a single organization in Canada.
