MARBLEHEAD, Mass. —

A 13-year-old girl died in a crash early Tuesday morning on the North Shore and a 16-year-old boy was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence, officials confirmed.

The deadly crash in the area of 352 Atlantic Avenue in Marblehead occurred at 2:51 a.m., according to a statement issued by Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker and Marblehead Police Chief Dennis King. First responders found a vehicle that had suffered extensive damage.

The 13-year-old was pronounced dead on the scene.

Officials said the suspected driver was treated for his injuries and taken to a local hospital. Tucker said the teenager was arrested and charged with operating under the influence.
